Origins
The Second Islamic Economic Congress, organised by the Ministry of Rural Development, inspired the ulama to establish an association.
A formal meeting to discuss its establishment was held at Dewan al-Malik Faisal, MPI (now the IIUM Centre for Foundation Studies), Petaling Jaya.
PUM was formally established at its First Special General Meeting at Kolej Islam, Klang, Selangor. Official approval was received on 3 December 1974 (No. 1541).
